Alan is Agathon’s Founding Partner and CEO. With more than 25 years in the business, Alan is responsible for setting the vision for the company and managing overall operations. In addition, he plays a key role in project definition and strategy for clients. In day-to-day operations, you’ll find him stepping in to help wherever needed and building relationships with team members and clients alike.

Alan is passionate about defining clear goals for projects, whether for a client or internally, knowing that doing so makes the execution 100x easier. When faced with a sticky problem, he’s able to step back and reevaluate the starting assumptions to get a fresh perspective and come up with creative solutions.

Alan doesn’t take himself too seriously and is entirely comfortable poking fun at himself. In his spare time, he can be found playing ultimate frisbee, cooking, or coaching youth sports. Despite the gray hair, he’s a long way from retirement and this is where you’ll find him until then!

Brian is a Systems Engineer and Project Manager who works with clients to capture and organize their priorities and budgets and coordinates our development team to get the work done. In addition, he’s responsible for system administration within our hosting environment, including upgrading software, documenting systems and processes, and troubleshooting issues.

Brian’s passionate about removing technical hurdles for clients so they can do the work they’re called to do. Similarly, he enjoys helping Agathon teammates by removing roadblocks and allowing them to focus on work they love. He’s skilled at bringing order and structure to areas where it’s lacking, communicating clearly, and following through on projects.

With more than 20 years experience and a dual degree in Religion & Theology and Computer Science from Calvin College, Brian loves serving clients who have a redemptive, eternal, faith-based focus. He especially enjoys projects where his passions intersect or align with a client’s mission, such as using technology to help the Truth For Life team share God’s Word.

Brian enjoys reading, photography, coffee, and rainy, cloudy days and loves that working remotely at Agathon gives him more time to spend with his family!

Eryn is experienced in store management and customer service. She enjoys learning and obtaining new skills while growing the ones she already has. Her desire for organization and detail-oriented work has led her to Agathon.

Eryn and her husband, Zach, love to hang out at the beach, binge watch episodes of The Office, and drink good coffee together. Eryn’s passions include collecting and listening to music, creating macrame pieces for friends and family, and (probably number one) dogs.

Jeff is a Software Developer who enjoys writing clean, readable code, reviewing and refining existing code, and collaborating with other developers to solve problems.

He’s a fast learner who welcomes critiques from his peers to help him grow professionally, and he works hard to find new, efficient ways to get things done with code. He loves seeing things come to fruition and finally solving an issue that seemed sticky at first.

During his first year with Agathon, he helped develop the Truth For Life mobile app and a music survey for the University of Chicago.

Jeff enjoys photography, PC gaming, and hiking, and he has a 7-year-old mutt named Max who’s basically his shadow.

Joel is a Partner at Agathon. In addition to building software, and general troubleshooting, he’s also responsible for building internal tools and general business management tasks.

Joel loves getting to the bottom of a technical mystery, not only because the detective work is fun but also because he enjoys making people happy by solving their problems (and as a bonus: developing new skills in the process). He collects odd bits of knowledge from a variety of places, which helps him connect things he’s come across in the past to help him solve a new problem or remove roadblocks so that people can get done what they need to get done.

Joel has been married to Leslie for 18 years. Aided by daughters Cora and Alice, they tend to a large needy cat named Zanzibar Monkey McBean, who think he’s a dog. In addition to spending time with his family, he enjoys reading, playing board games, watching TV/movies, and biking (when the weather cooperates).

Marissa is a Senior Developer who is passionate about building new user interfaces, improving user experiences, and implementing beautiful designs with equally beautiful markup. With versatility and an aptitude for learning new things, Marissa can jump into unfamiliar languages, frameworks, and existing web applications and quickly gain proficiency.

Although originally self-taught, Marissa credits her growth as a developer over the years to her colleagues, mentors, conferences she’s attended, and the projects she’s worked on. She’s been a member of the Agathon team since 2011 and has worked on marquee projects including the iTickets.com platform and the Truth For Life mobile app.

While most of Marissa’s work is behind-the-scenes, she also enjoys developing and fostering relationships with our clients, meeting fascinating people from diverse backgrounds and fields, learning about what drives them in their various professions, and gaining a broader understanding of their projects through their stories.

In her spare time, Marissa can be found working on DIY home projects and learning more about interior design, playing video games, and knitting or crocheting. She and her husband Paul have an eight-year-old son, Aden, and a golden retriever mix named Caprica, inspired by one of her all-time favorite sci-fi series, Battlestar Galactica.

Rachel is Agathon’s Business/Project Manager, responsible for everything from accounts payable and payroll to client billing so the rest of the team can focus on helping clients. As a project manager, she helps track budgets and schedules, working with clients to deliver on a common goal.

As one of Agathon’s first hires, she’s been with the team for more than 15 years and brings a positive attitude to everything she does.

She enjoys gardening with her chickens, running (as long as it includes a stop at a coffee shop), watching her son on the soccer field, and helping her daughter with her latest musical. She also helps at church as a women’s ministry coordinator. She enjoys traveling with her amazing husband and kids to visit family in Chile.

Ron is a Senior Developer focused on code design and implementation. He’s passionate about taking something that is complicated or difficult, whether a new idea or a problem with an existing project, and figuring out how to make it work in an understandable way that allows for future development.

With more than 20 years of experience, Ron is adept at foreseeing the potential issues or problems with a project and finding ways to mitigate them. He’s also skilled at jumping into unfamiliar territory, quickly getting up to speed and then being able to work with it in useful ways.

Ron is known on the team for providing daily word puzzles that bring out the competitive spirit of every team member. He enjoys playing softball, running, playing video games, following the Cubs, and bird watching. Ron and his wife, Melissa, have a daughter, Zoey, and a son, Ian.
